Jump — Van Halen
The OB-Xa synth chords that open "Jump" are among the most recognisable moments in rock history — and the solo that Eddie Van Halen plays on the record is virtually unknown. Here are my two one-man-band reconstructions: the iconic intro and the hidden solo.

- Fun Fact: Eddie Van Halen programmed the Oberheim OB-Xa entirely by ear — "I just know that if I twist the knobs enough, I'll hear what I like." David Lee Roth initially hated the idea of a keyboard-driven rock song. It was recorded direct stereo at Eddie's personal 5150 Studio. "Jump" spent 5 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 — the band's only chart-topper.
🎹 The Challenge
Jump features the most iconic synth riff in rock history. Those detuned, brassy OB-Xa chords are instantly recognisable — and extraordinarily difficult to faithfully reproduce, because the Oberheim's analog character has a particular warm "grit" that's hard to replicate.
On this channel there are two versions: the legendary intro with its glorious chord wall, and the synth solo that few people know but that Eddie actually played on the original record. Recreating both parts on the MODX8 required designing a patch that captured the width, the detune, and that analog brass wall that defined the sound of 1984 rock.

🎹 El Reto
Jump es el riff de sintetizador más icónico del rock de los 80. Esos acordes de latón desintonizados del OB-Xa son instantáneamente reconocibles — y extraordinariamente difíciles de reproducir con fidelidad porque el carácter analógico del Oberheim tiene una "suciedad" cálida muy particular.
En este canal hay dos versiones: el intro con sus acordes gloriosos, y el solo de sintetizador que pocos conocen pero que Eddie tocó en el disco original. Recrear ambas partes en el MODX8 supuso diseñar un patch que capturara la anchura, el detune y esa pared de latón analógico que definió el sonido del rock de 1984.
